Inclusion

Intensely aligned with the theme of the 59th Venice Art Biennale proposed by the curator Cecilia Alemani, “Il latte dei sogni”, the imponent painting presented by the artist Chrispapita, suggests to the observer a thought on the representativeness of  the human being in society, its relationships and its history.

The artwork is 7 meters wide by 2.8 meters high and is an acrylic painting on canvas. Through the technique of hyperrealism, the artist wants to show "the human and inclusive gear as the engine of change and progress in Guatemala." Chrispapita explained that this is a tribute to the artists of the golden age of Latin American murals, but also to the great Italian masters of the Baroque, attesting the great influence of Italian art on Guatemalan culture.

"Inclusion" proposes an invitation to accept the differences between human beings and to respect them, with justice and equality, considering that each individual in its singularity is part of the society. It also exalts the greatest wealth Guatemala has, its people and its multicultural diversity as a strength for development.

Christian Escobar “Chrispapita”

He was born on November 3, 1982 in Guatemala City. Is a self-taught artist, as a child, he showed great interest in drawing; from pencil drawings to acrylic on canvas. Hyperrealism and realism is what he´s best known for, inspired by the human figure and applying features of urban cultures and their relationship with nature and science. He uses chiaroscuro as a tool to generate a correct dramatization in his themes, playing with the duality between light and darkness.

Graduating from Francisco Marroquin University in 2009 as Doctor in Dental Surgery, he then went on to obtain his Master Degree in Prosthodontics from Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil in 2012; emphasizing on light and color in dentistry. He is a former professor of human anatomy at the Francisco Marroquin University dental school.

His artistic and life philosophy is the baroque ideal of Memento Mori, which means "Remember that you will die", which motivates him to create works where the main theme is celebrating life, living in the present, learning from our past and future.

Guest Artist

              Valeska Meyer

Valeska Meyer, better known as Vali, has an ample trajectory as a professional photographer since 1999. She has participated in various national and international collective exhibitions. Her range of themes is diverse, in both the artistic and professional sense, but always showing her emotions. Vali found, through photography, a channel to express herself.

The 6 photographs that are presented in the Guatemala pavilion of the Biennale Arte 2022 are part of a series called: Santo Tomas. These works were captured in Chichicastenango on a 21st of December because that is the day of the town’s patron saint. The cultural diversity of the country is displayed, as well as the “inclusion” of the ancestral with the everyday.

Being able to connect to people through the lens is what moves Vali, capturing their emotions, feelings, and expressions. That magical instant in which she sees her subject’s inner self as she photographs them, achieving a connection and energy exchange without speaking, is what fuels her soul positively. This exhibit is a clear example of that connection. paragrafo
